Rumbles + clunks = dissapointment
Hello everyone, I'm your latest member and have recently purchased a 2001 C240. I had always wanted a Merc and saved hard for it but I may have bought a pig in a poke.
Problem 1, - I noticed a thumping noise coming from front nearside wheel when going over holes and drain covers on road, all front suspension bushes have been replaced and the problem is slightly better but still not eradicated.
Problem 2, - When my engine and gearbox is up to temperature a rattling noise comes from it. It's a manual box and the rattle still occurs in 4,5 and 6th gear. Depressing the clutch doesn't stop the rattle so I'm not sure where it's coming from.
Have I bought a pile of crap or are these problems easily fixed??? I look forward to hearing any theorys from anyone.

Problem 1: Check the brake calipers also check the lower control arm it is a common issue for that year.
Problem 2: Your engine mounts are filled with fluid and it could have all leaked out this is also a common problem. Engine mounts have to be inspected on these cars every 60K Miles.
