Hi, i have a 2002 petrol c200, the yellow engine light comes on when i turn the ignition on and stays on but there doesn't seem to be any problem with the car and no faults are showing on the dashboard, anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Cheers.

I had similar problem with my 99 c280. Light came on one night with no other indications, checked fluids etc. Everything worked fine. Read in the little guidebook that came with the car that the light is associated with the fuel injection system (or something like that) and that the light sometimes comes on if the gas cap is not on properly. I had gotten gas that morning, so I opened and reclosed the gas cap but the light stayed on. So I called the dealer and they said that it could very well have been the gas cap but the light does not reset right away. They went on to say it may take 40 cycles of the ignition key before the light would go out. As long as there were no other indications of a problem, it was ok to drive. They said if the light did not go out in a week to 10 days, then call them back. The light went out in 2-3 days. Hope this helps.

 

Have you taken it in to have the codes pulled from the car? You may want to do that. Not all Faults will show on your cluster.

 

No, i haven't had the codes read, do i have to pay for it?

 

Most dealers will change 100 dollars to hook up there diag computer, but you can go to a independent repair center and have it done for 65-75 dollars
