Default RPM does not go up

Further to the power loss and increase in consumption, the rpm does not go above 4000 in P or N.
As I had said earlier, the MAS looks clean and fine.
Is there any test to show that the MAS is dfective? The car has done 50K km.
Thanks.

best way to test is to put a known good one to it... if you don't have a diagnostic computer hooked to it.

Shan>>>see my other post about your catalytic converter. May or may not be that, but I just witnessed a guy at the muffler shop who had the exact same complaint. Car would not rev over 4k and severe power loss. The muffler shop guy knew right what it was, and sure enough, somebody had worked on his exhaust system and DROPPED the cat from several feet above the floor and re-installed it. Needless to say, he didn't know these things can't be manhandled and dropped without damaging the insides, and that was it. New cat on the car and the thing ran like crazy. Worth checking anyway.
PS>>>>I don't think I would try to rev the car in neutral or park like that, but hey.....it's your car![]

Car would not rev over 4k
it is not suppose to go more than 4000 rpm... or else it will spit the piston ring on the exhaust pipe

it will activate fuel injector cut-off to protect the engine.

if it is in "D", then you can always go beyond 4000 rpm.

it makes a difference revving the engine on gear and in neutral.
