Default Question About The C220

Hello guys! I'm new to this forum. I just got a '96 C220 and don't know much about the cars. I was told they are pretty reliable. Are they??? The car is at 94K, but it just got a 40K motor and many other odds and ends.

Anyone got an owners manual for this car?

Any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks!

I have a 95 c220 only 45k miles. No issues, these are great cars. Early models had wiring harness issues. You can get a haynes manual #3511 for this car from amazon.com for about $35.

Wiring harness and head gasket leaks come to mind. The early versions of the 111 4 cyl leaked oil at the front of the head gasket because of the two bolts that mount the head to the timing cover. The bolts were updated to prevent failure but forgot the cutoff date. Overall a slow but reliable car.

hello... i have a 94 C 220 AMG (36) W202...& dont ask me how many problems i ahve had in past three years of ownership...

FIRST OF ALL: THE ENGINE WIRING BURNT BURNING COMPUTER & HAVING AIR SENSING PROBLEMS
AFTER I FIX THIS THE CARS RPM WOULD NOT BE STABLE UNLESS THE TEMPERATURE WAS 80 DEGREES.... NOW THAT WAS A BIG PROBLEM....THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN UNLESS THE IT WAS HOT
THE WATER PUMP FOR COOLANT BROKE DOWN
THE AIR SENSOR HAS BEEN CHANGED 4 TIMES
THE CAR WAS NOT GOOD WHEN IN IDLE & SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY WHICH WAS TOO DANGEROUS BUT THANKS GOD IT STARTED... RIGHT NOW I CHANGED THE THROTTLE VALVE CONTROL & IT GOT FIXED AFTER GOING TO GARAGES FOR A YEAR.....
THE FRONT & REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS WERE COMPLETELY JAMMED

Now for the good thing about the car: it is my first ever car & driving... handling is superb

I just bought a 96 C220 and hope that things will be well. I will report back if any arise. I did post about a noise in the engine compartment and the tranny hard shifting. I got a great deal on the car, so I hope that it will be ok.

So far I found that the noise coming from the engine was a support rod by the water pump. The crusise control did not work at first but I firmed up the wiring and reseated the fuse and now it works intermittently.

I hope that helps.
