Default Oxygen Sensor Replacement at 65,000 miles?

After replacing MAF on my c230 which has 65,000 miles on it(2003),
the mechanic toldus they are getting a new code on the engine light which says oxygen sensor.
My wife dropped off the car so she didn't get to ask which O2 sensor(front or rear).

Did any one had similar problem with their c230 O2 sensor?
I thought O2 sensor would last at least 100,000 miles before they need replacement.
Could it be something else wrong with the car?
Anybody with any bright idea, I would really appreciate it - I'm starting to think that we might need to sell this car.

Also anybody know any problem with 2008 c300? Our family need four door and we are thinking about getting c300.
Does this model have similar problem as c230 where they need major engine work which would cost nearly $ 2,700?(some one has mention on the forum regarding this matter earlier this year)
Thanks

When your MAF went bad, the engine was not fueling properly; it likely caused the O2 sensor to clog with carbon. Why not get someone to pull the o2 sensor and clean the carbon off of it with some detergent and a tooth brush. After all, itscrews out like a spark plug.

I Just bought an 09 C300.

If it were me, I would replace the 02 sensor and not worry about it too much. As you might already know, I have a 2005 C230K with high mileage (now 144,000 miles) and have been posting here about the car for a long time, documenting what's been happening over the years with the car. I had quite a few problems up to about 85,000 miles or slightly more. Then, it seemed to kind of level off and be fairly reliable for the remainder of the miles. I guess I had replaced all the things that were destined to go! The service writer at MB dealership told me that if the car "made it" to 100K miles, it would go to 200K. We'll see. I'm keeping it for now. Nobody will give me a dime for a car with that many miles on it and now it's just up to me to maintain it properly and sing it a lullaby once in a while. The newer cars are completely different. You shouldn't have the same problems with a newer car now that the Kompressors are gonzo. The good news is that mine still gets 33mpg on the highway and high twenties in the city. This is just cruising along...no wacky driving or anything. Now it's just brakes and tires. Brakes and tires. I hope.

Thanks mrcoyote and Bluesilver for your fast reply.
I've learned so much from your input mrcoyote. I'd really appreciate if you could post any future problems with your vehicle - now that we decided to keep our c230. And I'm sure I'll be bothering you more in the future regarding any problems we might occur with our vehicle.

Bluesilver, any problems you read in the forum regarding c300?
How much did you paid for yours?
I'd appreciate your input regarding purchasing detail on your c300.
Thanks everyone for your input and happy a great day.

Did either one of your had to replace cylinder head on your c230's?
I've read on the forum that people were having problem with their cylinder head and needed to replace them which would cost $ 2700.
Let me know if they've done something that wasn't necessary.
Thanks.

I replaced my O2 sensor on my 2002 C230 coupe when it only had 8200 miles and my BMW had it replaced at 10,000 miles. They can get screwed up very easily but are not expensive to replace. They often need replacing at the change of seasons as the engine management systems adjust to temp. changes.

X> my pleasure to help you out and no, it's no bother to me. I look at this site every day and if there's something I think people
could benefit from, I'm not afraid to post....as you know....maybe too much. I'm no Mercedes expert, but I have a lot of years of working on cars from A to Z, mostly hot rods and muscle cars and engines. I love to see what works and what doesn't. Kind of like a lifetime of trial and a lot of errors! I will continue to post about my car if anything comes up. Right now, it seems OK. Never had a cyl. head replaced on it, although,yes....I did read about some problems there. Had a supercharger go on it, but thanks to an extended warranty, I let Mercedes put a new one on at their cost.
