No acceleration power when I hit the gas pedal
We have a 1994 Mercedes C220 with an acceleration problem. When I have the car in DRIVE and hit the gas pedal to accelerate, say when passing another vehicle, the car does not respond with the added immediate boost in acceleration it once had.
I can downshift to get the acceleration, however the "punch" I previously had when I would hit it in DRIVE is not there. The gas pedal simply goes to the floor with a gradual increase in acceleration. Other than this lack of punch, the car runs great.
My Mercedes dealer says I need a new transmission, however, I am not keen on doing that and really wonder if that is the only solution.
Anyone got any thoughts? Appreciate your comments.

RE: No acceleration power when I hit the gas pedal
Cannot understand why, but does disconnecting the battery then reconnecting after a while, cause any other issues?
Specifically, are there any car features that will need resetting? Or as I would think, reconnecting power should simply power up the vehicle and reset features as normal.
Thanks
