New to board & Benz ownership. Just purchased 2005 C230 Kompressor, Daily driver is 2001 Land Rover Discovery

Welcome, how do you like your C230 so far?

 

So far, great. I haven't driven it a lot. I think I've put a couple of hundred miles on it. It appears to have enough power for the car, steering is responsive and the ride is just soft enough to be comfortable but stiff enough to give you some feedback.

I considered a 2003 BMW 530i but really liked this car when I saw it at the Benz dealership. Considering it was new and about the same price I thought I would give it a try. My wife has a 2004 BMW 540 so trying out a Benz seemed the natural thing to do.

 

Just curious...how does her 540 compare to your C-class?

Smoothness of engine: No comparison-BMW
Handling: No comparison-BMW

Quality of build: Much better-MB
Ride Comfort: Much better-MB
Creature Comforts: Much better-MB

Really difficult to compare the two. The are two really different cars. The 540 is, in my opinion, just a brute. It reallt goes when you want it to and the slightest movement of the steering wheel and the car reacts. The commercials are true, its a true driving machine.

The C230 is just a fun, sporty car. It has enough power to make it fun to drive but the ride is comfortable enough that I could easily see taking it on a road trip.

In the end you're comparing a german V8 against a german supercharged 4, not a lot to compare.
