Hey there everyone! By the post title, I'm new here to the forum. Well I went out and test drove a 1995 C280 today and was VERY impressed! The machine had about 169,000 miles on it, but man did it drive smooth! The interior was beautiful with next to no flaws. Breaks were recently replaced, no rust, stereo sounds GREAT, and overall an awesome car. Now I've got a few questions for the mid-90's C-Class experts here...

What should I look out for in this car, and does it have some more miles in it (i.e. is it worth buying with such high mileage)?
and
Is there anyway to check which optional features it has on it, such as traction control and the like?

Any input would be great as it was just such a nice car and it would be a private sale, which I always prefer since you get to learn that much more about the car before its sitting in your driveway, ya know?

Have the engine wiring harness checked thoroughly. This will mean opening up tapes to really get a good look at the wires. If they are corroded, brittle, or cracked, you may be in for some major electrical problems. The C280 mid-90's model is notorious for this type of problem, and it is an expensive fix. Trust me - I know from personal experience.

 

If the records do not reflect that it has been done, you will likely need new coils (500-600 dollars), air flow meter (800 dollars). Don't pay over 5K and be prepared to spend another 2K.
