Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and really would appreciate any help from any of you here. I recently purchased a '03 C32 AMG. It has a clicking noise when I first start my car that last only for 8 clicks then goes away while the car is running. But, when I turn the car off for more then a few minutes and start it again it clicks again 8 times. It doesn't click when I use the heater nor A/C. Only at the time I start the car. I was told that it most likely be my flap on the steeper motor and I will have to remove my dash to fix it. I heard that the part is less then 20 bucks but the labor is a fortune.My questionisif removing the dash hard to do and could I do it myself? I have the time to try it but I don't want to damage anything because I have never takena dash off a car before. If anybody could help me that would be greatly appreciated and if anybodyknows has to remove the dash step by step would be great.

hello, that is a pretty big deal because the center console and part of the dash has to come out. depends on which stepper motor it is also. the radio, vent, climate control unit, upper push button assembly, driver side lower dash panel, and support under the radio must all come out. even if you do the job yourself the car still must go to the dealer to have the motors synchronized for correct operation.

 

Oh no ! The benz dealer told me that the motor is fine but just the flap needs to be replaced because when it's trying to position its self when I start the car the flap is hitting something. Do you think that is easier to get to or the same thing? Thanks for the info

 

that is the smae thing. the motor is probably ok, but the plastic linkage that is attached to the motor breaks and then the motor spins inside of the linkage and causes that clicking sound
that you hear. still need to remove the dash components.

 

Here's one time when I speak from experience:
DON'T try this at home!
Taking out all those parts is a nightmare beyond most people's ability.
I did the same job on my BMW, and some of the fasteners and bolts were so different it almost stopped me.
I would NEVER do it again by myself.
And I've worked on cars for 40 years.
Did I say NEVER?

Never say never. But I'm saying NEVER on this one.[:'(]
