I will post pictures in a day or two. The install looks great. It looks OEM and integrates well in the dash. It sounds good too... even without the OEM subwoofer in the rear!

Sunnyvali, you the man!

I have been having cold feet on moving forward with the pioneer. I was given the AVIC-Z1 as a gift but then was told to not install it by others. Have you had any complications? I think the entire car needs to be re-wired (speakers) also if I have a 6 disc changer they willl have to remove it because it wont work (thats not a big deal) just want to know everything that needs to be done

I have had not had any issues with the install. I had to go back once to get the power antenna adapter installed. My 6 disc changer is still in the glove box, disconnected. There is no need to rewire the speakers. Don't anyone tell you that you have to.

Overall, it is not that complicated to install depending on if you have fiber optics from the HU to the amp or not. If, there is no FO, it is pretty easy install. Otherwise, you will have to have a 4 or 5 channel amp installed to bypass the BOSE amp and sub. I decided to install a 4 ch amp and did not invest in a 5 ch amp for the sub. This is my wife's car and she will not miss the sub.

If you are having the amp installed, I will recommend having the installer install the amp where the first aid kit is to keep the factor amp/sub in-place.

Now on to the Pioneer NAV itself... I am not too happy with its NAV capabilities. Maybe I don't have the VSS wire connected, but it just is a bit slow for me, especially in the city. We were in downtown Chicago on Michigan Ave. and it was too slow to warn me to take appropriate turns while we were look for our hotel.

If you set this unit to not take highways, it takes you through bad parts of the town and ends up taking routes, which will not make any logical sense to me!

I am comparing this to my '04 VW Touareg with CD based NAV system. After using the Pioneer system, I am in love with my Treg nav. And, all this time I have been badmouthing it.

Now, all of this could be setup issues or my type A personality (that’s what my wife says), but we both agree that Pioneer unit has not met our expectations yet. We are off to another vacation next week and will test this unit a bit more.

Good luck with your install. The Pioneer Z1 is full of features you will enjoy. Oh, the build-in CD/Radio sounds excellent!
