Default My New(to me) 99 C280 Sport

A couple of questions about the above mentioned auto; 1. The stereo seems to increase and decrease volume on it's own. Does it have an automatic ambient noise level compensation feature? If so, I can't find it in the Owner's Manual. 2. The Ac works but does not really seem to have the output it should when on AUTO. Any ideas? 3. Sometimes when I fill the gas tank, the gauge goes to empty and stays there for a while and eventually goes back to a true reading. Anyone seen this before? Other than these ****ling little problems, I love the car, 54K on it, interior and exterior imaculate, garage kept in FL and all records.

Two of my cars (not the SL) have speed-sensitive radio volume. The faster the car goes, the louder the radio gets to compensate for road noise. Maybe this is what yours is doing?

Your A/C probably needs a freon recharge. Or, does it blow cold when it's not in AUTO?

No idea on the gas gauge.

My 99 C280 has the ambient radio feature, but not adjustable, I had a Bimmer where you could adjust the feature. As far as the air, have you tried turning down the temp a bit? and how does it work on cooler days say in the 80 degree side compared to when it is really hot. We had a terrible hot spell 90 degree 100% humdiity and when the car sat in the sun it would blow warm air for a couple of seconds. Try cleaning the temp sensor also, it is located on the drivers side where the black grille is for cooling the brakes, you might have to drop the cover underneath to get at it. It is a long thin thing, not to be confused with the Parktronic sensor, if so equipped, which is located on the passenger side and is short and fat Open a window for the firs couple of minutes to let out the hot air, if the weather is dry turn on the the recirculate feature and this will chill the air faster. IMHO, German, Swedish cars don't have that ice cold AC found on American cars, I have own cars from both countries and they AC especially the HVAC auto are very good, but one thing American cars get right is the AC. Getting back to the AC on a really hot day, the car wasn't ice cold but it is very comfortable. If you have the auto system and set it on the default of 72, it is going to stay at 72 degrees, I had some service done during a heat wave last summer and when I pciked up the car it was sitting outside, with the service rep and he got out gave me the keys and the temp was set a 64 degrees, it was cold, Press both the red and green buttom and it wil default back to 72 degrees. Some folks say not to fool with the temp setting, but IMHO that is what they are there for. The other thing have you changed the cabin filter recently, a dirty filter could effect both AC and heating.

Almost forget my soon to be x wife's car a 04 Hyundai XC 350 which is top of the line, has the coldest AC I have every experienced, and beside having more goodies then and C class offers, is a darn good car all for $26K new, I bought her the demo last February and it cost $18K, $1K discount and I got $2500 for her 94
Audi 100S with $110K miles and book was only $1500.
