Default My First Post, Please Read C320

I'm New to Mercedes, and new to this Forum.

SO HI TO ALL FELLOW MB OWNERS

2 Weeks ago I bought a 2001 C320, WOW What an awsome drive.

It went the the my local dealer yesterday (UK), rear spring, front bushes & torsion bar replacement.... £650 worse off, but it really doesn't bother me... It's excellent to drive... and it didn't feel like they're ripping me off.

Anybody ever driven over a cattle grid at 55mph, today I did and all the door locks popped up!!! No big deal I guess.

Peter

Welcome, Peter.

Never done a 'cattle grid' before.
I did have the experience of being the only car on a Ferry (btw Canada and US) whose alarm system kept going off as the ship rolled in ruff surf.

MB is an awsome ride, ideed.

Yes, very nice ride, haven't seen a cattle grid since I waw in the UK in 69. How many miles on the car? and no preowned warranty here in the colonies, you get the balance of the factory (if any) plus a year starmark. I not sure the the door locks should have pop up but a 55 mph the door locks shouldn't "open"

No Warranty as it was registered in Jan 2001, MB offered me an extra year for about £700 GBP, thats about $1200 USD... however, the cover is limited to 100,00 miles.

Mine has 113k miles on 2 weeks ago, broke 114k miles.

I wondered if the locks popped up by the cattle grid upsetting the emergency door lock sensor (the one that is supposed to open in a crash or rollover).

Other than that, the only mod i want is 2 x K&N Panel filters for a few extra ponies, but i've read mixed reports on these for the V6 3.2 Litre engine. Any thoughts would be appreciated, (just incase u didnt know, uk spell litre not liter, lol so don't think I never went to school

BTW, Great to talk with you guys, and '69 was 3 years b4 my time. 5 Years since i was in CA,AZ,UT,NV - me and my Fiancee never done Canada, Yet!

As I remember thiose cowgrids make our speed bumps look like ant hills. I have used K&N filters either replancements or CAI as I now have on my 99 C280 and never had a problem with them.Attached is my CAi with a K&N inside. Look back at the cars of the month sections and my ride was the August car of the month.

I'm right in thinking a c280 is also a V6 right, I think i'll go down that road, if nothing else for the massive cost difference for servicing.

We have some really bad speed bumps here too, god knows why, the city I live, breathe and work was officially declared as having the worst roads in europe!!

The rest of the UK is not really much better, Speed humps are just a way for the government to get more tax, which incidentally is 17.5% here on top of the RIP OFF BRITAIN prices.

The duty on auto fuel is about 75% making it £4.50 per gallon, I think thats $7 - $8 US.

I wonder where my taxes go!!! (oh, and total income tax deductions of almost 40%......) but i'm not bitter....

I put a K&N panel filter in the stock air box; just a couple of weeks ago. Unlike my Focus, I didn't notice a difference in torque. Haven't noticed better mpg either.

You are correct sir- the '99 C280 boasts a rather fuel efficient(22-28mpg) 2.8 litre 6cyc with 194HP/195torque

Welcome.
From some reviews, the K&N filters will give you some additional HP, because they don't make much of restrictions.
Meaning they don't filter very much. Had some link to diagram somewhere.
So you might drive with the filter better, but for shorter time. Just like driving with no filter at all.
