maf sensor problems
Hi, my maf sensor failed so, i got a new one, put it in my car but the idle is very poor and i just can get no rpms. the thing is, if o disconnect the maf, the rpms stabilize and the car works well, but with lack of power. i am finding difficult to get a scanner to my var in my hometown, is there any other we to tell what can be wrong?

I am sorry, it is a 1996 c 220. i just went to the mechanic that happen to have the connector for the port but his computer doesn't support the model and year form my car, in fact, non w202 models.
we found out that the car does the same with the old maf sensor, it idles poorly when connected but works fine when disconnected so maybe the problem is not the maf after all.
*fact.- the trouble started just right after i replaced the fuel pump

Perhaps it's a faulty fuel pump - do you happen to know if your car is OBD 1 or OBD2? If it's an OBD2 car, a scan tool designed for Mercedes should throw some codes and will greatly assist in diagnosing where the issue is coming from.

thanks for your response, but the new fuel pump has been tested and has the correct pressure, about the port, i can't tell if its a obd1 or obd2, all i know is that it is round shaped with a lot of holes, like a honey comb, and it is located in the engine bay. i found the correct connector for the port but we were unable to scan it because the scanner didn't have w202 data loaded on it, just w204 and earlier models.

Hello, i just wanted to let you know that i found the source of my mac sensor problems. turns out, there was a piece of oily rag stuffed into the tube that comes out of the air filter box. once i got rid of it, the car started to work fine

Great to hear that it wasn't anything serious. Please let us know if we can assist with any part needs in the future or DIY tech content. From your above description, it sounds like you may have an OBD1 port which is a bit more complicated to have the codes pulled from.
