Default Keyfob question

i have searched and searched and need to ask a question about the keyfob.

I have an 05 C Class 230 kompressor, and I was wondering does the keyfob work where If I just put it near the handle the door will unlock and lock? There is a small little black piece on the handle and was wondering if that is what it was used for?

I have been clicking the unlock and lock button, but wondering if it is as simple as putting the keyfob near the little black square on the right hand side of the handle. I have tried it but it has not worked, so it's making me guess no, but maybe something is wrong? Please help me if you can.

Thanks.

No, it is not possible. Keyless Go feature is not available on C-Class.

hello your remote operates with radio frequency which is the primary signal for the central locking the antenna isin the back glass, actually not in the glass but above the rear glass under the headliner.but you also have infrared signal which is for the summer convenience feature which is what that little square thing is on the door handle is.( infrared signal pickup)you must be close and sort of aim the remote in the direction of the door handle and hold down the lock or unlock button on the remote and the windows and sunroof will open or close depending on which button you are holding down. if your remote is not locking or unlocking the car, unless your right ontop of the door handle, the radiosignal is the problem, you could have a bad antenna or a bad remote or a fuse is blown for antennas, ive seen all 3 problems.

Glad I found your post Chassis221. The remot for my girlfriend's 2002 c230 coupe unlocks the doors only when aimed directly at the driver's door handle. Sounds like it might be a problem with the rf antenna (or a bad fuse). Can you offer some suggestions for troubleshooting? (for starters, I don't know where to find the fuse for the antennae)
