DON'T GET UNDER YOUR CAR SUPPORTED ONLY BY A REGULAR CAR JACK!!!

Even with a floor jack, quality jack stands should be utilized for safety. [:-]

Follow up to the shuffle sound related to the drivetrain:

Today I took my car to the MB dealer, I mentioned that the noise might be related to the heat shield/insulation. The mechanic checked the insulation and said it was attached fine and that couldnt be the noise. He then removed the heat shield and found a tag attached to the very center of the drive shaft that should have been removed when the car was pieced together. He cut it off and sent me on my way. so far, the sound is gone. I will keep you posted if the sound returns.

thanks for all the advice.

Hello everyone ! My first post ( and also my first problem ). I have a 1998 C280 with 130k miles. I recently noticed a clicking noise similar to what was mentioned in the first post. When I took the car into my mechanic for an oil change I was told that the "transmission flex plate" was cracked and would need to be replaced. My mechanic quoted me $800 for the part and another $800 for labor ( apparently the transmission needs to be "dropped" to replace this part ). He told me the part # is 112-030-0805. Anyone familiar with this ? Any idea where I could possibly find this part cheaper ? Thanks in advance...

I don't know about a 'flex plate"., but there's a flex disc between the driveshaft and transmission. If this is what he's talking about it's cost is between 80 and 200 depending on the manufacturer. you can probably install yourself if you,ve done any car work before and have tools. hope this helps. look in the mb parts link for prices.

Thanks, brudd !The part actually connects to the flywheel. You have to drop the transmission to replace ( I have called about 6 places so far ). My friend's mechanic said he would do it for under $1000 ( he found a used part for $200and $600 - $800 for the labor ).
