Default How to replace "Check Engine" bulb in dash?

I have a 1996 Mercedes C220 and went to get it smog checked in Santa Maria, CA today. They said everything passed fine except that the "check engine" indicator bulb was burned out. Every now and then on rare occasions out of the blue it would flicker on for a few second. When I turn the key on, all of the indicator bulbs come on except the "check engine" bulb.

How can I change that particular bulb? They said it will pass the smog test if I get that bulb fixed.

Default RE: How to replace "Check Engine" bulb in dash?

OK>since nobody has come up with anything on this so far, let me take a stab at it. USUALLY, and notice I put that in caps, the gauge "clusters" of most of these German cars like MB and BMW, can be pulled out from the dash to replace bulbs behind it. It's so difficult to do it from under the dash on your back, I think most of them just pull out. I know my BMW did. So, having said that, look for any screws first that might be holding it in. Don't be surprised if you don't find any. There may just be clips or something that just holds it firmly in the dash. Once pulled out, you may be able to access the bulb in question. I know this doesn't address your particular car, but I'm not familiar with that model. Sorry. Hope this helps you in some way.
