Hello end a question
Hello everyone. I just bought a 1996 C220 and it is in good shape. I have a few questions. i searched for the first and did not find any results. I will also search some more for the other answers.
1. Even though the car is regular gas, It almost sounds like a deisel. With that I mean there is a ticking coming from the engine. Is sounds like it is coming from the area where the top hose is for the radiator (hose meets engine on top). This may be where the thermostat is? It looks like it, but I will need to find out. The noise is louder when the AC is running and lower when it is off. Could it be the thermostsat? If so, can I replace myself, I have done this on other cars;Honda and Ford.
2. From a stop the transmission will hard shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third. I know this is not normal, bu t is it common? I am going to try some Trans-X and see if it helps. The car has 155k on it and I do not know if the trans was ever serviced. The fluid looks old. I have a Ford Explroer that was never serviced for 120k and when it was done, it went downhill! I do not want to flush and service it, only to need to rebuild the tranny. Any thoughts?
3. Last. Thanks to member Ronsl500 for posting the tutorial on how to open and resolder the button pad on the keyfod! I had to fix both. I did it myself and saved some money instead of buying new ones!

So far I found that the noise coming from the engine was a support rod by the water pump. After I remopved some of the tranny fluid and put in Trans X, the trans seems to be slightly better, but the hard shifts are still there. The crusise control did not work at first but I firmed up the wiring and reseated the fuse and now it works intermittently. I wonder what else I can check?
