2000 C280 shifs hard from 1 2 3 gears even when warmed up. Is there a transmission problem?

 

1st thought- change transmission fluid and filter. After that, if still shifts hard,may be a problem.

 

I just had that done in my last service about 3 months ago. Its got only 59,000 miles on it. Its been doing it since day one.

 

Did you ever mention it to service mechanic? What did he say?

 

Hard shifts usually is not indicitive of the transmission wearing out. When it wears out it starts slipping and shifting very slow. I had a 1978 300D that snapped your neck until it got verywarm.I just happened tochange the fuel filter and it made a big difference. I was told the clogged filtercaused a bit of a fuel starvatiionsituation which decreased engine power manifestingthe hard shifting. I know it sounds strange, but the hard shifting stopped immediately.

 

I have found out that the W202 C Classes shift hard. I guess it is very common among this car.
