Default Got a bushing question

The guy who replace my spark plugs and fuel filter said I need to replace some shifter bushing in the linkage. What is that? He said if I don't replace it some day my tranny won't recognize the gear I am in and will go into limp mode. Is that true? I do understand alot about cars, but i have always had Chevy trucks so I never had this problem.

Thanks,
FA

Default RE: Got a bushing question

Had this on my Acura CL 6-speed. It's a small round plastic washer looking thing that keeps your shifter from feeling limp and loose. There is 2 of them, on keeps it from going side to side the other from front to back. Its really hard to explain, but once they break your shifter is loose. It has no effect on your transmission or switching gears, but when your in say, 1st gear, you can push the shifter all the way over to where the 5th gear would be, but it stays in 1st until you put it in second. It's really strange how it still drives normal if you know where your gears are, but the whole shifter is just this limp thing. I got sick of it after about a month and just paid to get it fixed. Its under the car somewhere (you coulnt get to it from the inside of my Acura). Its a quick and easy and relatively cheap fix as long as they dont have to remove some stuff to get at it. Hope this helps, if not then PM me, I'm sure this isn't common and most people have never heard of this problem...
