Hi there. I am brand new here and need help. I have a 2003 c230 Kompressor coupe.

I went to get gas today and my gas cap will not go back on. I have never closely looked at it before but currently there are two metal pieces that are fully extended. They move up if you make them but they wont stay up. I am assuming this might be some kind of locking mechanism and they are now preventing the cap from going back on?

Any suggestions aside from purchasing a new cap?

its the cap. you need to spin the plastic piece back into the metal piece on the cap kind of hard to explain they need to be clicked together. then when the cap is twisted on, the metal and plastic are 90 degrees from each other.

 

Thank you so much! I was able to pry the metal piece up slightly and get it back alligned.
