Extended warranty worthwhile?
<FONT color=black face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=6><FONT color=midnightblue face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2>I have a 1999 C230 Kompressor, 60,000 kms. It has basic 4 year Mercedes warranty and major component/powertrain warranty through year 5. Until end of 4th year in service - a few weeks' time - I am eligible to purchase an extended warranty for about $1,500 to extend basic warranty through year 6 and power train through year 7. I average 15,000 kms per year and may keep the car for another three years. I have experienced no mechanical problems to date. Is it worth buying the extended warranty? Is there a big risk of major component/ powertrain problems in years 6 an 7 up to approx 105,000 kms? Comments appreciated.

Extended warranty worthwhile?
We have a 2000 C230 and to date the only thing that has went wrong with it was a mass air sensor and that was around the 30k mile mark. With almost 59k miles on it now it still runs flawless with no problems. Ihaven't heard where anyone else, from the other mercedes forums, are having any kind of high mileage problems either. An extended warranty is a gamble or more like an insurance policy, if it gives you peace of mind than it may be worth it to you. Besides, 105kms is only about 63k miles right? That doesn't sound like much of a warranty to me for the price.

Extended warranty worthwhile?
Good advice from Dale.</P>
My only advice is if you do decide to purchase an extended warranty, buy a factory extended warranty.</P><edited><editID>Chappy</editID><editDate>37931.7111458333</editDate></edited>
