I just bought a 98 C230. After I did a tune up, (new oil, plugs, air filter), I have no accelerating power. Whenever I accelerate fast, the engine loses power and begins to sputter. When it does that, i turn the car off, then restart it, and the sputtering is no longer there. Also, whenever I start the car and turn the A/C on before I put the car in gear, the engine sputters and shakes. When i turn the A/C off, the problem goes away, until i accelerate fast/normal. I have to accelerate slowly in order for the engine to not sputter. What could the problem be? I want to know if its an easy fix or do i have to take it to the dealer?

 

Hi cgmitch, do not take this as gospel, however I had a similar problem, I changed plugs, filter and was about to change the coils when I read a post on another site that mentioned the Mass air Flow unit. I removed this and cleaned it with what I thought was carb cleaner, did not have my glasses on and it was something else. tried the car and it was rough as hell, so purchased a new one and the car ran fine. not sure if the a/c has anything to do with it. hope get it fixed soon, if you are in the UK eurocarparts they may not list it you have to phone
