Default Dead Alternator on 2002 C240

Hello,

I'm a newbie, just purchased a 2002 C240 with 34,502 miles, so the car was ingood condition. I driven it about 1 thousand miles inthe 3 weeksthat I had the car and started to receive an "Undervolatge, Turn Consumers off!" error. I took it to the dealer and they told me thatmy battery needed to be replaced. So they replaced my battery with a new one and now Iam receiving an"Warning Battery/Alternator Visit Workshop!!" error. So I took itbackto the dealer and he told me that my alternator was dead and would cost$1100 dollars to fix...The dealer has the car now, as they had to order a new alternator from out of state

Any suggestions?

Buying a BOSCH alternator from the UK is about £180 Thats from a reputable supplier. This is about $350 when converted to USD.

Im not sure if they ship outside the UK but you could call them to find out or even email them.

http://www.eurocarparts.co.uk/

I've used them before for my C320 ordered 12 BOSCH spark plugs £45 delivered! plus 2 or 3 hours of my time to fit them, instead of £300 for the dealer to do it.

Best of luck

NOTE:
I've just tried there website and found they do ship outside of the UK, but it doesnt show me the costs. Worth a try if it saves you big buck$, also you dont have to pay VAT(tax) 17.5% - lucky you[8D]

Thank guys!! I took your advice and purchased an BOSCH alternator and have an independant mechanic install it for me and ended up saving over 600 dollars from what the MB dealer wanted to charge me.
