Default clicking noise

One more question on my 2003 C240--whenever I drive my car around alot, I start hearing a "clicking" noise...it almost seems to be like something hits the wheel because the clicking speeds up as the car speeds up and slows down when the car slows down (you can't hear it when the car goes above say 35mph or when it's at 0mph.) Any ideas?? It drives me nuts, and I can only drown it out with the radio so much.

Thanks!!!

Hi, I just bought a 2001 C240 yesterday and I took it in because I thought maybe it was the transmission. The mechanic had to adjust a heat shield that was bumping against the driveshaft. Mine was clicking from when you start moving till about 35mph.

Default RE: clicking noise

I had the same on my C Class C220 CDI - W203, It turned out to be a Blue clip had broken that holds the handbrake cable up under the tunnel underneath, it stops the HB cable dropping down onto the prop shaft, it was really difficult to work out as it was intermittent and only clicked after I had been driving a while, the reason for that being that when the hanbrake was applied, e.g. when parked, it tensioned the cable away from the prop shaft, obviously, after driving for a while the cable lost it's tension anddropped back down onto the propshaft, and yes it clicked rotationally like a wheel does, it also sounded like it was coming from under the dash.

The solution : Remove plastic cover from under the engine and gearbox, replace clip or if enough of the clip is left, strap it back up onto the clip witha couple of decent cable ties (I did and it has lasted 2 years up to now), the whole job, about an hour and a half maximum.

Hope this helps
