changing rims on C240
hi
I have a 2001 base model C240. I don't know too much about cars and im thinking about changing the rims. I would like to get 18x8 with 225/40/18 on all four corners, but i don't know if it'll fit correctly on the front. I don't know if this is the case with all C240's, but the base of the springs hovers roughly about 1 inch above the tire on the front; my early 90's 300E doesn't have this setup as the springs are completely to the inside of each wheel. I know that 18" with a 40 tire preserves some of the original aspect ratio, but im pretty sure the radius would be a litte bigger. Im afraid that the new rims and tires won't fit under the springs and would rub/not fit at all. Tire rack made the recomendations for my car and i would assume that thier reccomendations would require no adjustment to my suspension or whatever. Is there anyone here that has an idea what im talking about? Any persons here with my generation C240 changed thier rims and could give me a clue as to what is going on in the front? I'm pretty clueless about this. Thanks!

See my earlier post today about suspension and wheel changes on cars in general.
I got quite an education from a expert. Click on my handle on the sidebar and you should be able to find it easily.

When I bought some new tires form Tire Rack, the sales person, said I would be making a big mistake with low profie tires, they would really screw up the ride badly. So I went with the same 15 tire but one side wider, handle better and little difference in the ride.

Get some larger (thicker) sway bars, it cheaper and that will improve handling. Even less expensive if you can find them are poly bushings for the stock sway bars, will improve cornering, they do squeak a bit, but turn uo the radion. Try www.bekkers.com they have all this stuff. the basic suspension of W202 and 203's are good, all they need is a tweak here and there.
