Changing my CAT non-OEM ..afraid of issues..CEL etc
Hi All
Got a C 320 2002, I love the car, lately the passenger side catalytic converter on the back side started ratlling. So it needs changing, well the OEM is way too expensive. But since I am not living in Europe nor in USA I can't find any Magnaflow 53005 cats.
So I have one of two coices, either get OEM or get some locally built cats that are supposed to work well if I can belive the carage shop guys.
So, it will cost me around 90$ to exchange that one cat on the back side. But I am afraid that it will affect back pressure to the exhaust or throw any CEL later on.
Should I be concerned ?
Note: Emissions would still be met with the locally built cats

The answer seems to be: It may and it may not be a problem. I just went to GOOGLE search box and typed in "Magnaflow 53005" and did some reading there. Some pretty informative posts by people with other vehicles that have done this. You might want to read some of these in case you haven't. If you have, then you already know there have been some problems. I think Summit Racing has them and ships everywhere, but I could be wrong. I buy from them all the time. If the passenger side cat is rattling, maybe it would be a good idea to replace the driver's side cat at the same time? You want to save the expense, but perhaps these things should be replaced in pairs if one is already defective. Hope this helps somehow.
