Default Car Stuck in Drive after collision

Good day. I am rebuilding a 05 C240 4Matic and obviously it will not crank or turn over [:@]. I assume that when it had its frontal impact the tranny stayed in drive, however, I cannot remove it from drive using the gear lever, it will toggle between P to N but cannot engage into D. Does anyone have clues and/or diagram of the tranny setup mating with the motor? Someone told me that it is a rod that dissociates from the motor to avoid damage. All help is highly appreciated.
Thanks

it will not crank or turn over
from P to N you need to pass the R, right?

linkage adjustment is okay?

does the instrument cluster indicate the gear recognition?

Yes it does pass R. The instrument cluster does show which gear it is in (recognition), but when I try to put it into drive, it does not go in, feels like something is blocking it, reason why I suspenct it is still in drive, I am not sure about the adjustment linkage though. Sorry this is my first Mercedes. Thanks for the quick response though.
