I have a 2001 C320 and the service engine light came on and will not go off. I suppose this can mean a list of serveral problem areas??

If my service engine light came on I'd take it to a certified mechanic ASAP and I wouldn't drive it anywhere else. There could be a variety of problems with your car and if you ignore it then you could end up with a pretty hefty bill. Not just a few hundred bucks either. Not to mention when a censor went out in my car today it shut down and could have caused an accident. If you drive your car on an interstate you definitely don't want it going dead or blowing up in that situation.
