Default C280 Wiring

1995 C280 sport
A couple of months ago I forked out over 1200 quid to get the engine wiring harness replaced, and it finally cured the missfires and backfires. I asked for the old harness back with the idea of repairing it and then selling it on to recover some of the cost. Last weekend I started striping back the outer fabric covering. What I found underneth shocked me. I had imagined it was just the heavy duty cables that go to the spark plugs that were affected, Oh no, every wire was to some degree or another useless. The plastic coating just fell off, it was hard and crispy, you could see several places where the actual wire was in contact with other wires, how the engine ran is a mystery (miricle). How can Mercedes have made such a huge mistake, I always assumed Mercedes were quality vehicles. I used to own a 50 year old Bentley that had stood unused for several years and the wiring was still sound.
I ve since sold the C280 a shame but I will put this down to experience. Still liked it though.

It has always amazed me that some sort of recall was not forced upon Mercedes--------let's face it---the harnesses are total junk--------unfortunately, Mercedes didn't face up to the problem-----it's too bad they lost me as a future customer.
