Default C280 faster then i thought C300 Slower

okay so i bought a 2006 C280 a little while ago, and never had a chance ot get on it.. kinda didnt want to.

so today i put it in sports mode, and hit the gas nice. it took off and got me to 90 pretty fast. i was really surprized by it since im pretty much nieve and know nothing when it comes to benz's. i alwyas thouht they were heavy and slow.

now next point. my father just got in his C300 and i drove it and i feel like it's slower. i know it has the same 3.0L motor, but it feels much slower??? is it me?

im still head over heals for the C63, thats on my goal list for next car.

Yes the C300 is nearly $7000 more in price, and I think it must have gone into the steel body, because the car is quite thick and heavy. Heavier and slower are my exact thoughts as well.A few thousand dollars more on a sturdy car that will protect you in a collision is a small price to pay.

I think personaly that 2006 C280 is by far a better car then the new C300. I test drove the new C300 Luxury and didnt like it. I mean it wasnt a bad car, I just dont think it is worth $35,000.

Well, the 2006 certainly looks better than the 2009 in my opinion. I'm still trying to get over the discordant lines and the ugly wheels on the 2009.

Personally If I was in the market for a C Class. I think the only ones I would even consider buying is 2001-2007. I would go with something like a 2007 C230 Sport V6 Sedan. Black on Black. The new C's 08 and new IDK. I like them but I dont like them. I have mixed feeling about it. I think I just like looking at them but would not ever consider buying one. Almost like a Corvette. I love looking at them and they are fun to drive but I would never buy one.

You know Mercedes has stated that they were disapointed with the 2001 to 2007 as a result of reliability issues and customer complaints, and that the new C300 is supposed to be the result of improving the car. Couldbe the typical new car sales pitch. I'll let you know in eight years..LOL.

I went through the same thing with my old 190E. When I special ordered it new back in 89, it was the latest, hottest version, and I had to pay top price. Six years later, with 90k miles, they said it was a mistake, wasn't worth anything, and a cheap car. By year 2000, with around 200k,the dealer snobbed it when I brought it in, and said they normally don't work on them but would do it for me because I have been a credible customer. Approximately on the year 2006 and 325K, during some restoration, they realized this car was still on the road, still looking great, and still running, they begin to say that the car had one of the greatest customer satisfaction ratings of any MB, and they were trying to bring that quality back into the new cars. Go figure!

ha ha them old 190E's are great I love them. IF it isa 6cyl. I know the 2001-2007 where not good in the beginning of electrical issues. but it feels soo much more solid then any W202 I have ever driven. To start I think the interior is far better put togeather in the W203 and the looks are better and the seats you can actually sit in inside a W2O3. The only thing I do like better about the W202 is that it has one windshield whiper. Other then that im not too impressed with its quality or reliablitlty. Still all in all its a Mercedes and it will run forever as many people have driven W202 300K+

I visited the dealer again today. First of all, you are right about there being plenty of S, SL, E, and CLKs with low mileage and low prices on the lot. They ARE cheap. And I know the feeling you are refering to when you buy a new lower class car, and a year later when its not so new anymore pulling next to a CLS, for example, that someone paid $24k for used. You feel like someone else paid less for a better car, and that is NOT a good feeling to have. We just forget about the mileage difference.

Today I looked at other cars new and used. I can get a sharp E350 with 33k miles for $26k. After looking at the cars, somehow I ended up looking at the C300 again. Why do I resist it?

1) Japanese cars simply do not apeal to me. I having been driving German cars most of my life beginning with my first worn-out VW bug. Anything different from that solid feel and smell is uncomfortable to me. So that pretty much writes off Honda, Lexus, Toyota, and Nissan; they are alien to me, and I don't know why people buy them.

2) On the Mercedes lot, I feel comfortable with the cars. But while I was thinking about what you had said, i felt that I was not interested in another CLK or CLS. The CLK and the C LS are too flashy for me now. They are like movie-star cars and all I really want is a sturdy well-made mid-sized, ordinary car. After all I'm not a famous basketball player or a king. The CLS is sharp, but it is also VERY large. It must be 20 ft long like an old cadillac land yacht. The C300 is middle sized which will not over crowd the garage or take two parking places. My ego does not require a larger car. And with gasoline on the take, a six cylinder is reasonable. Also, I like the concept of a sport sedan; it suits my needs. So I'm back to the C300 again.

There has too be something in your mind here that is driving you nuts about this C300. I would try and see if the dealer will let you take it for the weekend or a few days to see how you live with it. When I was looking for a work truck for my real estate buisness they let me take home a brand new Silverado. Priced at around $35,000. The C300 is about that price so I dont see why they wouldnt let you.
