Default C230 Keys

I am looking for a little advice and assistance. Currently have a C230 Kompressor and have two sets of keys. One of the keys can do everything except open the door and truck. It appears to need new batteries and that should solve the problem. However, called a dealership and they said it would take at least one hour to put the battery in the key and test it. The cost including the dealership would be about $150 for the key to be fixed. It sounds like a lot of work that may not be necessary. Any help would be appreciated.

BIGGEST RIPOFF I'VE EVER HEARD. THIS IS A DIY. THERE ARE TWO $3 BUTTON-CELL BATTERIES INSIDE THE KEYFOB. CR2025, I BELIEVE.

OPEN THE KEYFOB CAREFULLY. TAKE THE BATTERIES OUT, GO TO WALMART, TARGET, OR RADIOSHACK FOR THE BATTERIES.

I agree with "fly". Some keys have one and others have two batteries. Either way there is a post under my ID that gives detailed instructions on how to change the batteries. I believe the manual may tell you as well. Your problems indicate dying batteries. If new batteries don't solve the problem there could be other problems that may require a dealership visit.

Thanks for the information about the keys. I had a strong feeling that the Mercedes Dealership was trying to pull a fast one on me. ONe thing I am curious is the best and careful way to open up the keys. My key set has three buttons which are to open the doors, close the doors and open the trunk. In addition, it has a button to move that allows a metal key to be released. In addition, there is a panic button at the top which is right next to the button which allows the metal keys to be moved/released. What is the best way to open up the key and get the batteries.

Thanks!

it's very simple..
remove your mechanical key from the transmitter key...
and inside the slot where ur place ur mechanical key has lock which u need to push it in(side ways)..at the same time pull out the battery holder(the lock of the mechanical key is attached to it) upwards...it's really simple...i dun really knoe how to explain exactly but it's a one minute or less job...

does ur transmitter key led blinks when u press any of the button?
because sometimes the key itself maybe faulty or damaged

My 02 coupe uses TWO CR2025 batteries in the remote. Remove the mechanical key using the tab.
Push the end of the mechanical key gently into the opening (at right angles to its normal position.
The entire end of the plastic holder will slide out when it disengages. Don't pry or pull with a lot of force because the plastic pins inside will break and then you're cooked.
Good luck.

Appreciate the feedback for the key batteries. The bottom line is all you do need is two batteries ($2.50) and it not only takes 1-2 minutes to change the batteries but make sure you do not pay any service fees. If you do go to a good Mercedes Benz dealership, they will most likely charge $5 - $10 for the key batteries . If you do go to a dealership, have the new batteries put in and make sure to test the keys yourself before doing anything else.
