C230 Digital Display
The digital display on my C230 K is failing. The text at the top and bottom of the display are not visible during day time. I was wondering if:
1. Anyone knows if there is a solution to this problem?
2. Should it prove necessary, how much should/will a replacement cost?
Thanks all.

RE: C230 Digital Display
hey, ive got an 04 c230 k and my top line started doing that as well. i took it to the dealer today and the service manager said it could be one of two things. there are apparrently about 15 little bulbs behind that that illuminate it, and they could be going out, or in case of an entire line of text, if actually could be the display. she ordered me a new cluster to replace it. thank god for warranty work. if youre out of warranty, id be really scared to find out what itll cost. hope this helps in any way.

RE: C230 Digital Display
Thanks for the help.
It is the lines across the top and bottom that do not work, the center works fine. Oddly though, I have noticed that the whole display works fine in the morning when I first start up the car. (It is bright out) Later, it fizzles out as described.
Is there a sensor that determines how bright the screen will be?
Yes, I am very scared.

RE: C230 Digital Display
Poor quality control in manufacturing. heat is teh enemy of this very tiny solder joints in the digital displays. The circuit board expands and contracts causing the outages you all describe. My guess is you should spend about $250 and have the displays remanufactured. I had mine doen by BBA Reman in Massachusetts. Do a web search or contact them through their ads in Mercedes Parts on ebay. They did a good job on my cluster. Good luck.
