So my 1994 c220 smells like sulfur/rotten eggs in the cab! From what iv read I think it's the catalytic converter. But a new one costs more than my car did! So my question is there a block off for the censor on the catalytic converter? Because I want to Just cut it off but with the sensor unplugged it won't run right. Any ideas? Thanks!

My 2006 C220 the catalytic converter is basically the down pipe and has just one exhaust sensor that is in the top of the catalytic converter can. Essentially the sensor is before the cat so removing the cat (which is down stream) and leaving the sensor in its original position should have no effect on the signal. I have been toying with the idea of slitting the top off of the cat, emptying the junk out and welding the can back together. A local welder should be able to do this for a drink and the cat will look original at MOT time. I would advise you to remove the probe while grinding and welding as they are a bit delicate and sensitive. GJS.
