July 2007 model, 646.811 engine, 120,000km with the following iCarSoft MBII error:

"23E2-000 002 Check component G3/2 (O2 sensor upstream of kat) Short"

Lying under this car with my nose touching the exhaust I cannot see the upstream O2 sensor. Anyone out there with a "black belt" in O2 removal, who can tell me what to take off to see it, so I can remove it with the help of plenty of CRC and a special O2 sensor spanner plus anti-seize for the new O2 sensor?? The car seems to behave itself and consumption is around 7.1 litres/100km, but I better get it done. Have a quote for a AUS$400 sensor plus one hour labour for a total cost of AUS$600. A new Bosch O2 sensor might only be $50 - $200, so a bit of saving for a pensioner.

Thanks in advance. Which company is best to order the sensor from as Amazon, e.g., is not even sending those to Oz?

Found the answer! The O2 sensor is located below the air filter box and is accessible from the top and not from the bottom as most other O2 sensors are. I hope this info helps other Merc owners. This O2 sensor for this C220 CDI W204 646.811 engine 2007 does not need a special tool to remove it, all you need is the part and some anti-seize compound, or what Merc calls something like "hot area lubricant".

There are a lot of "equivalents" to the A0035427118 O2 sensor (Merc price AUS$1,020), like the Bosch 02580170018 Code LS17018, but are they any good?? Interesting note to the Bosch O2 sensor, namely "to change it at 250,000km"!! My original failed probably before 120,000km. The consumption still is around 7.3 l/100km.

 

how’d you go with this did you buy the Bosch or go with Mercedes

 

I bought the BOSCH from Germany and had it sent to Australia. Still have it as the error message was due to a low battery voltage, that seems to upset the ECU.

 

Thanks for the reply. did you have the usual symptoms of a bad sensor? A new sensor from Mercedes is now $1200 and two weeks from Singapore.

I had minor symptoms and the occasional engine light but I’ve been away for 12 months and now
I've returned I have more severe symptoms ( code:P0426 Catalyst Temperature Sensor Circuit)

 

My Bosch is much cheaper and you can buy mine if you are interested. From memory I even have step-by-step instruction how to do the exchange.

Thanks for the hint, I can see it from the top but I still have to take of the exhaust catalyst as I can't access it. Please assist
