Default Brake pads/rotor and warranty

My 2003 C240 (~25k mi) is in dealer for maint today.

They said front brake pads need to be replaced . That's fine with me. But also said rotors need to be replaced since they are 1mm thinner than their standards.

What is the risk of having 1mm thinner rotor for another one year or two?

Because of their high price (~$700 for brake job + ~$150 for air filter), I'm thinking going to non-MB mechanics.

Is it going to void my manufacturer warranty which expires Dec 2006 if I go to any other non-MB repairshop?

What the heck! Maybe I should do it myself over Labor day. Does anyone have step-by-step procedure doing pads and rotors?

Thanks in advance

As long as you use OEM parts at local mechanic, it will not void your warranty. And you do not need to change brake pads yet if the sensor hasn't been activated yet.

K1MOTORSPORT is right. Also, chech on-line for brake parts. A front pad set (four pads) s/b around $50. Ea. front rotor around $60.
BTW, find out what the spec is for rotos and measure it yourself. When I had my front pads replaced- by an independent MB mech- I told him I wanted new rotors, but he talked me out of them. He explained MB gives a minimum thickness for rotors and if they are in spec, then you reuse them and they'll last at least the length of the new pads. I've had no problems.
Good luck.

I've ordered parts from here before.

this happened to me also.... the break pads are good until they hit the sensor... sound like they might be trying to make u service before due.... i had to replace mine at 25k and took it to a nonmercedes place it worked out great so far i have 44k and nothing wrong. the only thing i had to do is buy the brakes, sensors and rotors from the dealership and take them to the place i was getting my brakes put in at. good luck =)
