Default beeping with key in igniton etc

Hi,

1998 c280. When I put the key in the ignition and turn it to position 1, beeping starts and doesn't stop. When I turn it to position 2 the beeping stops but then all intrument lighting etc is on. If after starting the car I turn it off, the beeping starts again and does not stop until I take the key out. Why does it beep in postion 1 and why does it beep when the car is turned off? I've had the car for a little over a year, and I don't think it was always this way. Thanks for any help.

usually the seatbelt sensor causes the beeping in position 1. Buckle up first, and then start, see if u have a difference!!!

Sorry, I meant to mention this occurs with the seat belt connected. No other faults are indicated, just the beeping. If it is the seatbelt sensor, where is it and is it a DYI item or do I need MB maintenance? Thanks for the help.

the seat belt sensor is usually located right inside of the buckle and Its def a MB Maintenance, but before we jump to any conclusions, lets see if anyone else can diagnose this problem
