Default BAS/ESP LIGHT

Every once in a while the BAS/ESP light goes on and stays on or sometimes it goes off. Any suggestions? My car is a 2000 C230 Kompressor.

Thanks, in advance.

I had that problem, too. although it wasn't intermittent. when that happens you'll notice the gear shifter locks up. there is an override near the shifter. jam a pen in there and you can shift. mine suffered no performance issues. the reason for my ESP/BAS light was that the rear brake lights weren't lighting up when i hit the pedal. how's that for safety? anyway, the whole deal was easy to fix. the problem wasthe STOP LIGHT SWITCHthat is attached to the brake pedal arm. remove the cover that sits above the brake pedal with a screwdriver. then remove the STOP LIGHT SWITCH that is attached to the brake arm. you just unplug it and replace it for a new one. they cost less than $20 and the cheapest price i found was at an MB dealer for $13, and they shipped it free. I hope this isyour issue because its easy.

Actually, the problem was a bad lateral acceleration switch.....

The part is only about $100. It's not that bad.
