I recently replaced my air filters on my 2007 C-230 with K&N filters .. An independent Mercedes mechanic told me that it was a mistake and that it would do harm to the (not sure of the name) air intake sensor unit? Can anyone comment on this ??

Don't waste your money buying over priced K&N products. As a matter of fact, even the dealer filters are a waste of money. Just go to Amazon.com or any online parts place and purchase the least expensive filter you can find. I have been doing so for over 10 years and never had a problem. The only exception is the cabin filter. Make sure that you buy the cabin filter with a charcoal cleaner. This filter will make a difference cleaning the inside air of your car.

Usually what can harm the mass air flow sensor is excessive oil on the filter. To use these filters correctly they are very maintenance intensive. They do offer increase airflow, at the cost of letter more air (dirt) in. To each their own.
