Air cabin filter relacement schedule
#2
Just take a look at it and you can tell when it's dirty, kinda like a paper air filter. I order a few of them at a time online (cheap that way), free shipping, and replace when I think it needs it. Of course, a dusty climate, etc. would require replacement more often.

My service advisor had a good tip.
Shine a light behind it. If you can see through it clearly you can get some more life out of it. Also, does the air inside smell at all? I've vaccumed a few over the years. As already noted your climate has a bigger bearing than the actual mileage.

Since I live in Arizona, I have found www.autohausaz.com to be great, but there are other places galore to shop as you know. The cabin filter for my '05C230K is $8.82. Not bad. Just order enough stuff to get free shipping. Their service is really fast too! (I am NOT assoc. w/ them in any way). I buy oil filters, spark plugs, etc. there as well and save a ton doing the work myself. Oh yeah, also fuel filters.
Hope this helps somebody.

My TYC air cabin filters came in and it's a good thing. Good grief! I pulled that old thing out and held it up to the sun and couldn't see ANY sunlight through it. It was three times as heavy as the new one too. I cannot believe my cabin didn't reek...lol.

A little 'research' at various M-B parts source web sites and at AllDataDIY.com shows that the newest replacement cabin filters for M-B cars are 'charcoal impregnated' for better 'air quality'. What this means is that the 'light test' of trying to shine a light through them will most likely NOT WORK as a test of their status. These also have LESS AIR FLOW CAPACITY than the older paper element filters too.
Be aware of which type of filter you are replacing in your M-B vehicle.
