Fiber is good for you, don't fear it, embrace it. Yes, if you have the factory phone kit, optional ampor CD changer,they won't work when you remove the HU because it's tied to the fiber network. If you don't care about these things then it doesn't matter, replace away. They sell adapaters for the steering wheel buttons. Those AVIC navs keep getting cheaper and cheaper, not a bad option these days.
BTW, if you do have the optional amp (use to be called Bose but then they changed the name, can't think of it now, is it Harmon Kardboard), then the speaker wires go to that, not to the HU, so you'll have to rewire from the HU to each speaker.

thanks! I have the standard low end radio, not the harmon. It is wired for phone only. I also have a 6 changer cd player in the glovebox. Essentially you're saying it can be done, but my steering wheel controls won't work, right?
