I got C 240 recently and now when I switch on AC the cool air that comes out stinks for a while and after 2 minutes it come out OK. Why does it stink what shall I do. Any ideas. I have my C 240 covered under warranty Bumber to Bumber for another 5 months. Is it covered under warranty ?

The first question is Have you changed the Cabin Air Filter ??
As Sleepwalker stated, the Cabin Air Filter can actually BE the cause of the smell.
Get a new one, swap it out, then see if you still have issues.
If you do, then go on to what C280 wizard and lugnut mention above, as you then have more problems to deal with.
Do the obvious things first!
Hope this helps,

Also, do what you can to dry out the system after changing the filter. Mold needs moisture to grow.
Frebreeze just puts perfume on the mold. It doesn't kill it. It will be like peeing on a bonfire to put it out.

Proctor and Gamble says Febreze Auto Clean is for cleaning fabrics in your car. It also says to thoroughly clean the fabric surface first, then spray on the lightly scented Febreze Auto Clean and wait until it dries. It's not made for sole applications on plastics for killing mold. It scents fabrics.

Now how do I change this cabin air filter. Can I do it myself. Where is it located ? Is it inside the hood as sleepwalker stated in post# 6.
regards
Just went to car to see if I can find air filter somewhere in the hood. As sleepwalker said to right side (cars rights mine left) of the cars hood. But mine has a big car battery there, I could not locate it. It has some box sort of thing with clamps on my right side. But it also has protection shield with screws on the top. I dont know where to find. Any how I will now go to wallmart and try that deodrizer thing (quick & easy for ppl like me). In meantime if someone knows where I can locate the air filter it would be of gr8 help.

I don't know where the filter is. Did you look where wiztard said it is?
If you want to try the wiztard spray method, buy some bathroom tub and tile cleaner. At least it will kill mold, if it contacts it. That's the problem, though. You'll never get 100% coverage.

I think you were right the first time Sleepwalker.
According to my manuals, the C240 didn't come out until 2001.
So here's the scoop on the 2001 C240
There's an A/C Dust Filter located under the hood, passenger side, behind the battery, It's kind of hard to tell that it's there, but it's between the firewall and the interior of the car. It lies flat and slides into it's slot towards the inside of the car (if that makes any sense to you... LOL). See the pictures for more help.
To Remove the Dust Filter (Under the Hood)
1 Open snap fasteners (1)
2 Remove dust filter housing (2)
3 Remove dust filter from housing (2)
CAUTION: Dust filter must not be cleaned - replace.
4 Install in the reverse order.

To remove the Activated Charcoal Cabin Air Filter
1 Remove cover below the dash board on the Passenger side.
2 Remove cover (2)
NOTE: Slide cover in direction of arrow. Pay attention to markings on cover.
3 Pull out both activated charcoal filters (1) from below
CAUTION: Activated charcoal filters must not be cleaned - replace.
4 Install in the reverse order.

I would do the filters FIRST, forget about "MASKING" the problem until you find out if you indeed have a problem.
Just my .02 cents worth
Hope this helps

Febreeze, AirSept, Lysol, Breach? They sound all dangerous. Me, I have a gentler approach. I keep a few nice-smelling passengers with me. I never get bad smell. Dunno what u've been hauling.
In short, haul some sweet ***! After all you drive a Benz!
