2006 c230 engine rattle/spark knock

My 2006 c230 sport has developed an almost constant engine rattle/spark knock sound, mainly while accelerating in second and third gears (6 speed). The car has 92,000miles. The noise started while still under warranty-the dealer heard it but could not replicate in the shop. My current mechanic has heard it. Hehooked the car to the MB computer, with no red flags from the computer diagnosis. The dealer said to use better gas, but the car has had nothing but premium from day one. I have begun using onlyname brand gas and am adding gas treatment on occasion. The car still sounds like an 80's Cavalier. Gas mileage is still excellent-27+ combined, and acceleration has not suffered. The spark plugs were changed at 60k. It would be nice if the noise went away. Any suggestions? Thanks.
