2006 C230 - B Service
due to this economy..... i dont have $$$ to spend over $300 for a B Service.... even if I take it to an independent service, its gonna cost over $200
i am over 4100 miles on my B service and I know its bad..... does it make sense to do a simple oil change at like Pep Boys for $30 and then get the B service next month or so when I have money??? what about air filters and etc??
someone help me out!!!

Here's my opinion on your situation.....the most important part of a "B Service" is the oil and filter change. You are 4,100 miles overdue on that, and if nothing else, I think you should have the oil and filter changed now. Didn't your car come with Mobil 1 as factory fill? That means you're going to want to use Mobil 1 (or a suitable synthetic) when you change it, and I don't know anywhere you can buy it that cheap. I buy it at COSTCO for $32 a six-pack, and then you add the filter, etc., so to get "Pep Boys" to do the job for $30 using Mobil 1 is doubtful. Plus, no offense to Pep Boys, but I myself wouldn't take my car there. Not a Mercedes. I had a friend who used to work there, so I know. You wouldn't believe the stories. Anyway.....if you are going to have the money for the B Service next month, I guess you could wait on everything......but......if it were me, I'd get the oil & filter done now. Mercedes allows quite some time between oil changes as it is, so......up to you. Pay a little now, or a lot later!
If you take it to a quicky lube location (oil changer) take your own oil as they won't provide the Mobil 1. You may also have to instruct them on how to reset the service counter . I was going to take my vehicle to a Quality Tune but after talking to the service guy there I opted to do it myself. Even if you take in your own oil they are still going tocharge $50.00 +/-. There are alot of things on the service list that they look over but at least you'll have the oil/filter change done to save on cost.
I know things are tight now all over. However, you have a Mercedes Benz and it is both Penny Foolish and Pound Foolish to try to save on this service. Lump out the cash and save somewhere else. Start with Peanut Butter?
