It's time for the "A" service on my 2005 C230 however I was under the car looking for where the oil filter goes and cannot see it. I bought the new one which is just the element so there must be a cap or something to take off. Anyone know where the filter is located?

 

My C-Class isnt a 2005 but I am sure it will be the same for you. Mine was located next to the intake manifold and is access from the top of the car not under it.
