Default 2002 C230 Sunroof not closing, grinding

My daughter’s sunroof started out having trouble closing without some assistance and now it grinds and is very difficult to close even when pushing at the same time. I've seen some similar posts however I have not yet found a good detailed solution for repairing the unit. I assume the track has gotten "sticky" and therefore is requiring additional force on the motor and gears.

Thanks,

-John

Default sunroof sticking?

did you recently replace the battery or disconnect it? in the owners manual there is a procedure to "reset " the sunroof. I had that similar problem after a bat replacement. hope this helps!

I have used white lithium grease to lubricate the track once the roof is fully open. As well, put a thin layer on the front wind deflector where the sliding portion pushes it down. As well, use WD40 or a light oil on any of the hinges for the wind deflector. Make sure the track where the roof opens onto the fixed glass is clear of debris as well.

To synchronize the panorama roof: The 2002 manual states the following:
Move the switch in the "close" direction, wait until the sunshades are fully closed. Hold on the switch for approx. 1 second.
Move the switch in the "open" drirection, wait until the sunshades are fully opened. Hold on the switch for approx. 1 second.
Move the switch in the "open" direction, wait until the panorama sliding roof is approx. 4 in (10cm) opened.
Move the switch in the "close" direction, wait until the panorama sliding roof is fully closed and hold the switch for approx 1 second.

As I recall, this procedure syncs both the sunshade and the roof. I personally have held the switch for longer than 1 second.
Good luck.
