Default 2000 C230 ESP LIGHT

I HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ESP LIGHT BEING ON . I READ ON ONE OF THE FORUMS THAT SOMETIMES THE RELAY ON THE RELAY BOARD BREAKS LOSE ON THE CIRCUT BOARD BUT I HAVE CHECKED THE RELAY BOARD AND NO LUCK. WE ARE LOOKING INTO REPLACING ONE OF THE WIREING HARNESSES BUT NOT SURE WHICH ONE YET. HAVE BEEN TOLD THE CONNECTORS MAY BE BAD. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT IT HAS MY KOMPRESSOR AND MY CRUISE SHUT DOWN. ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS? THANKS RON

This is a common problem, and relates to the "brake light switch" It's a $15-$20 US part ($20+ from an MB dealer) and will take you about 10 minutes and a screwdriver to fix. Follow this link for detailed pictures/explanation on how to do it.

PHIDELT, I FINALY GOT OUT THERE YESTERDAY AND GOT THE SWITCH OUT. RAN A COUPLE OF TESTS ON IT AND FOUND IT TO BE DEFECTIVE. CONTACTS WERE UP TO 8 TO 13 OHMS. TOOK IT APART AND USED SOME CONTACT CLEANER. RE CHECKED AND GOT IT DOWN TO .3 OHMS AND REPLACED. TOOK CARE OF THE ESP LIGHT, THE CRUISE CONTRL AND THE KOMRESSOR. I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE LINK. A SPECIAL THANKS TO TIM FOR HIS INSTRUCTS ON HOW TO DO THE JOB. ( GREAT LAYOUT). AGAIN THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP. RON

Default Link is no longer working - ESP BAS issue and brakes have mind of their own!

I have a 2000 C230 Kompressor (100 K miles) and the first thing that happens is the brakes start to apply by themselves, then the BAS ESP light comes on. When I turn the car off for a while, turn it back on, the BAS ESP light is off.
I brought my car to my mechanic, he hooked it up to the computer (the light was not on at the time) and he could not find anything.
I would like to try and replace the brake light switch to see if this fixes the problem, however, when I click on the link above it does not work.
Has it moved?

I experienced the exact same problem yesterday while driving my 2000 C230 Kompressor through the mountains of BC. That is, the brakes applied of their own accord on the front wheels (not both at the same time so it was quite exciting.) , the large yellow triangle flashed, and then the esp/BAS light came on, which brought peace and quiet. Shutting down the engine and restarting gave only temporary relief until things acted up again. Eventually after my last engine s/d everything seemed to work fine until I arrived in Calgary and the check engine light went on (steady, not flashing) and the engine barely ran, just limping me the last few blocks to my house.

Will be interesting to see what the Mercedes Doctor has to say.

It turns out that the fault was the yaw sensor for the ESP. The bad - very bad - news was that it had to be sourced from Germany, would take almost two weeks to be fixed, and would cost $1400. And the car is undriveable until then.
The sputtering engine problem was unrelated - just bad plugs.
