Default 1997 C230 Rough Transmission Shift

Seems like this misfire issue is all over the forums. I recetly purchased a used 1997 MB C230 (110K mi) and after two months the CEL came on. I took it to an independent dealer and he scanned and got some codes for misfire in cyliner 2 and 4. He replaced the plugs, CEL came back on the same day, he replaced the plug wires and Coils packs and the light went off. This time I picked up the car and the CEL came on again with some misfire when I try to pick up speed, it gears down from 5 to 4 or 4 to 3 to pick up speed then misfires and hesitates. The less gas I give it at this point, the less the misfire and it gradually stops the misfire and picks up speed. All the codes are gone except:

"P0170 A Self Adaptation (A/T) N3/10"

He could not figure out what it meant and I am wondering if anyone has an idea, the car also shifts rather quickly, can reach 4th gear before 30 MPH. Could this be the MAF?

**Update**

Ok, So I replaced the MAF sensor, all misfiring problems have ceased, car is picking up speed more than ever before. However, whenever this was done, the transmission now has a very rough shift (This was not the case before the MAF sensor replacement) especially between 1 & 2 and 2 & 3, a very rigid jerk when it shifts between these gears is experienced. Will the computer need to adapt to the new MAF sensor or how could this be? The only thing that was changed was the MAF sensor. Anyone have an idea?

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the transmission fluid level and then go from there. If level is OK you should see a pro.
