Default 1996 C280 stalling out

just picked up my car this saturday. Turned it on with the previous owner there. No idle problems. Parked it at my house till today. Turned it on no problems. I notice I am low on gas the the gas light is on. So I pull over in the gas station and I put in 87 octane. I just wanted to put in about 10 bucks because I was planning on filling up at my job. I turn on the car and in about 10 seconds it stalls out. So I turned it on again and drove and I see the needle dropping below the 5. Now its a 8 out of 10 chance its going to stall after turning it on. Has anyone had this problem when putting in cheap gas?

certain high performance engines do react badly with cheap gas. when my car hits low fuel...such as when there is only one gallon of gas left in it, it will shake when standing still. Cheap gas only seems to worsen the problem. If you have to fill it up on a lower grade gasoline, then try putting in mid-grade and also putting in a bottle/can of octane booster. They sell it inside of the gas station and its about 3 bucks. Also, try filling the tank up full on premium and then adding fuel injector cleaner. It did make a differance in my car so it may work for you. You may also want to wait and see what the other members of the forum say, but i think this is a cheap alternative to taking it back to the dealership. good luck

Ok just got back from my buddy's shop. He check for codes but is not seeing anything. The only code coming up is an o2 sensor. He is telling me that he cannot see why it drops out. Its wierd because after I turn on the car, I have exactly 10 seconds to rev the engine up to prevent it from stalling out. After that.... the car runs like a dream. My mechanic is telling me that Mercedes doesnt let aftermarket scanners see everything with the car. Is this true? Looks as though I am forced to bring it to the dealership [:@]. Im gonna try the fuel injector cleaner this weekend and hopefully it fixes something.

This car sounds like it has low fuel pressure. You may just need a new fuel filter.
