Default 1996 C180 gearbox oil

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I'd like to ask for your help regarding gearbox oil. My car is a 1996 C180 (euro spec) with manual transmission and this will be the first time to replace oil by myself.

Seeking info in the haynes manual, it states ATF fluid is to be used; the local garage had used Cofran 75w/80 gearbox oil in the previous change and a quick search to Castrol website states that TQD (ATF) fluid is to be used.

I've been confused so far to which type of oil i should use sice the car has manual transmission and ATF is intended for automatic gearboxes. Unfortunately I don't have the maintenance manual to see exactly the recommendations.

For the history the vehicle is the 202 chassis and M111 the engine type.

Thank you in advance

Regards,

Try redline oil, the stuff is unbelievable!
I had a 3rd gear crunch on up and down shift, tried the Benz spec oil, no change.
Filled it with Redline shockproof light, problem solved, I still cant get over it!
Thought I would have to pull the box out and overhaul it (not a pleasant job).
