interesting, I have had no cars in the shop with this problem. ussually if something like that would occur then I would be requesting to keep the car over night so that it would be aloud to sit before starting. and as for as mercedes sending tech's to the dealer, they usually end up replacing a ton of parts when they can't pin point the problem. not that it is a bad thing, the cars always end up fixed when I have dealt with them in that manner and I get paid so works for me. will have to keep an eye out for that though. I run these cars everyday, who knows maybe they are all doing and I've become immune.

Thanks for the reply sleepy_b, I was a tech too so I understand what you meant. The dealer kept my car for almost two weeks before they found the problem, allthe previous time it would stay in the shop average to to three days.
Like I explained, the last statement was " we are aware of the problem and it is not detrimental to operate the vehicle. Once, we have solution from MBZ, we will contact you for repair ". Well! It has been two years, I found this forum and browse around to see if any one else experience the same thing I did and if there is (are) any solution(s).
Perhaps sale the car and buy a Toyota (JK LOL)

Default My 04C230K does this too!

Mine does it and sometime it bothers me. I did take it to MB and they said it was normal, but then my technician guy was fired so he may not have know what he was talking about. I wonder if this has caused any issues with the motor in the future?? I hope not because mine is already out of warranty.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. the 272, 273 engines have been pretty reliable, aside from a few minor sensor issues. if anybody here knows or remembers how just naturally loud the 112 and 113 engines where then you will realize how much improved the are. they rattled all day long from brand new and lasted....well not forever, but pretty dependable.

hey guys! alright, this is what they told me when i picked up my c300 benz two days ago concerning the knocking noise for 2-3 seconds at start.

they heard what i desrcribed and said the hydrolic lifter fills up with oil inside the 2-3 seconds, and the sound is actually a raddle not a "knock," which would be far worse. as long as it only made this noise at start up this will supposedly not effect functionality of the vehicle. apparantly this is a normal characteristic of the motor. hope this helps.

True story. All the GLK and C's I saw in the last few days did this.

Default Engine Knock C-350 sport

I have a 2009 C-350 and the engine will knock after sitting idle for about 1 hour, this has been happening since day one, I now have 33,000 miles and nothing has changed, I am taking my car back to the dealership and leaving it until they come up with a fix. I don't really believe that want to fix it.
